About Us!

Roots of Resilience Collective was founded by and for the Black community to address the deep-rooted disparities and disproportionalities within the child welfare system. Rooted in prevention, intervention, preservation, and aftercare, we are dedicated to breaking harmful cycles within the child welfare system and creating lasting, positive change.

As members of the community, we understand the challenges Black individuals and families face in the child welfare system and beyond. Our mission is to create a space where their needs are seen, heard, and met with care and intentionality. We provide culturally responsive resources, advocacy, and support that prioritize family preservation, empower those navigating the system, and ensure that individuals aging out have the tools they need to establish stability and independence.

Though we are still growing, our vision is to build a collective that serves as a hub for community, education, and policy advocacy—ensuring Black families not only survive but thrive. We recognize the resilience and strength within our community and strive to bridge the gaps that have long made access to support and opportunities difficult.

Through collective action and a commitment to systemic change, Roots of Resilience is here to empower Black children, families, and adults—creating a foundation for healing, growth, and success for generations to come.

Our Vision

We envision a thriving Black community where children, families, and individuals impacted by the child welfare system have access to the resources and support needed to heal, grow, and succeed. By addressing systemic barriers, advocating for family preservation, and promoting awareness, we strive to create lasting change and empower future generations.

Service Area

Although we are headquartered in Iowa, our service area extends across two states, both Iowa and Nebraska. Training needs outside this service area will be considered and discussed on a case-by-case basis.
