Warmer Days Ahead!

Spring is finally on the horizon, and if you're anything like us, that spring fever was hitting hard! But with the promise of warmer days ahead, we’re eager to shake off the winter blues and move forward with exciting updates at Roots of Resilience Collective (ROFRC).

Welcoming Our First Board Member!

We are thrilled to welcome Jasmine Harris as the very first board member of ROFRC! 🎉 Jasmine is a dedicated mom of three, a passionate advocate, and a true coffee lover. She is currently pursuing degrees in Social Justice and Education and, when she’s not busy making an impact, she enjoys reading and true crime. When asked what inspired her to join ROFRC, Jasmine shared:

"I was drawn to ROFRC because I am deeply passionate about its mission to support Black communities. Too often, Black individuals are overlooked in broader conversations about racial disparities in the U.S., and I am eager to contribute in any way I can. With my experience working with children who are often marginalized, I hope to bring valuable insight and support to this important work."

We are so grateful to have her on this journey with us!

🚨 We’re still looking for more board members! If you or someone you know is passionate about our mission and vision, please reach out—we’d love to connect.

A New Focus: Child Welfare

As we continue to grow, we have made an important decision to narrow our focus to Child Welfare. The disparities for Black children in the child welfare system are alarming, and we recognize the unique challenges that Black children and families face within a historically oppressive system. We remain committed to our core mission but will now center our work around:

✅ Prevention – Addressing root causes before family separation occurs.

✅ Intervention – Providing advocacy and support within the system.

✅ Preservation – Helping families stay together whenever possible.

✅ Aftercare – Ensuring long-term success for children and families post-placement.

Additionally, we have expanded our service areas to include all of Iowa and Nebraska. We’re actively seeking partnerships to help reduce disparities and improve outcomes for Black children and families. If you know of organizations or individuals we should connect with, please let us know at [email protected].

Making It Official!

Exciting news—ROFRC is getting closer to becoming an official nonprofit! We have been hard at work finalizing our Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation, and we appreciate your patience and support as we take these critical steps toward official recognition.
